William Blake wrote the poem. I liked it so much I made a song out of it. I hadnt played it in a long time. In fact this was supposed to be a practice run, but I made it all the way thru without messing up. Until the very end. So I went with this take. I just posted a newer version hopefully a little better. Here is the link if you would like to listen.

The Tyger

By William Blake 1757--1827

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,

In the forests of the night;

What immortal hand or eye,

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.

Burnt the fire of thine eyes?

On what wings dare he aspire?

What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,

Could twist the sinews of thy heart?

And when thy heart began to beat,

What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,

In what furnace was thy brain?

What the anvil? what dread grasp,

Dare its deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears

And water'd heaven with their tears:

Did he smile his work to see?

Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,

In the forests of the night:

What immortal hand or eye,

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Blake is wondering how a God that made the gentle Lamb, could also create a furocious Tiger.

The Fearful Tiger offspring up in the corner of my singing video is the mighty Willow! My Cat! Beware!!lol Or is that Woody?

I heard that Symmetry was pronounced symmetry like the word "try" Is this true?  Make sense, because like this we can rhyme symmetry with eye.

The Canadian Northrope Frye wrote a book of literary criticism on Blake called Fearful Symmetry and it became something of a classic in its own right. In it he reckons the tyger stands for untamed energy or desire and that rationality exists to place it in its proper context in creation. A great poem that works as well as any lyric Dylan or Townes ever penned when combined with a fine Appalachian ballad style of melody and finger picking. Terrific stuff!
