A lot of this song, especially from 0:19 - 0:31 seems to be lifted from a British folk song I had to play for band once

this so is the most supreme pop anthem by these guys, love the whistling, was it clem or one of the other guys in the group tooting away on this superb track?

I love the tune as it is a great tribute to one of Americas best Rock and Roll artists, who sadly died before his time.

For the benefit of the uninitiated, this is a "rocked-up" version of the old folk song "Early one morning". It was commonplace particularly in the 60s to record versions of tunes that are in the public domain thereby avoiding having to pay royalties to the composer. Record producer Joe Meek is a good example of this and his catalogue is littered with examples. e.g. "Greensleeves" became "Green Jeans", "Phil the Fluters Ball became "PFB" and "Camptown Races became "Do dah day".

This sounds just like the song from Pollyanna! It was when the orphan Pollyanna and Nancy, her auntie's maid, were walking down the street together carrying the basket of goods and singing in staggeringly high-pitched voices like hungry kittens! It was the 1960 version featuring Hayley Mills.

@Icecreamsocialist1 The best way to describe this is something that was considered uber hip at the time and has lasted so long the kitsch factor has saved it from utter obscurity. Back in the day, movie producers would hear something like this, be told kids liked it, and wind up putting it as the soundtrack to the scene in the The Blob where people run screaming from the theater. Does that help?

How could you use a poor maiden so? ...LOL how did they get away with calling this 'bllackpool rock' and probably claiming royalties for it?
