I read his biography and found out that he is from my family's home town, Detroit. I never knew. I guess that explains why he shot some of this video here. I was 9 years old when Tony Rich released his music. Even as a little girl, I enjoyed listening to him :-)

It's simply a point being made about the quality of most of the music being made today as opposed to music that was made around the time this song came out. There was a lot more substance in the lyrics, and music was in a purer form. Today's music, in my opinion, lacks a lot of that substance, and I do miss those days myself, and hope music reverts back to that older form.
