Shakey Ground was the 2nd single of the 1975 album "A Song For You". It was actually co-written by Eddie Hazel, lead guitarist of Parliament-Funkadelic. Interestingly enough, P-Funk member Ray Davis would later go on to actually join The Temptations for a sort time in 1995. Becoming the first official replacement for Melvin Franklin following his passing. Lead by Dennis Edwards it was The Temptations last song to ever reach the number one spot on the Billboard charts, unfortunately. Even though I can name off at least 5 from after this point that deserve that spot, but what ever. Copyrights owned by Motown Records (1975).

Will, you're right. 'Treat her like a lady' should've been #1 soul, but it wasn't.

One of the coolest funky song there was in the 70's. The first time I head it was on Soul Train. And when we got it at Swing Inn, the dance floor was swinging, people kept playing it on joke box. We must have played it 40 times that night.

The person who posted this teaches me that it was co-written by Eddie Hazel of the P-Funk. Now, that explains a lot. The Temptations delivering some extremely tight funk:
