Caught the Temps at the latin casino when I was 19, so close to the stage could see David Ruffin had on pink rim shades My God what a show never forget that night I got to see in person the greatest music group ever performed and will in my opinion always be the greatest without a doubt.I was raised in South Philly had all the best music and groups Thank God for letting me grow up in that era of beautiful music and singers. Musical backgrounds used lotta strings, horns, etc just gave you the chills with some of those sounds check out dee dee sharp " I really love you " and you'll know what I mean bout those strings!

Mike, Mike, MikeThe Monitors version features Sandra Faguin on lead.Although I like her voice she can't be compared to one of the great singers of all time.Plus Melvin's bass on this one. This is not even worth talkin about. Shame on you!

There will never be another group of entertainers who put so much love and precision into their performance like the Temptations, never. We were indeed fortunate to have seen such artistry in our lifetime .I have become a fanatical fan all over , just watching some of the videos of their performances and this was the era when, Dr.Martin Luther king was on the scene , so you already know what the atmosphere in the country was like . I was just a toddler then, but I remember falling in love with the Tall Talented Tempting Temptations. I was a young child but I knew what class looked like and a group of beautiful men, who looked like my father.Temptations forever.....

In my original comment a year ago, I talked about the temptations being the greatest singing group to ever grace a stage. When naming the members,I accidentally left out the founder. Otis Williams. Yes indeed these GENTLEMEN were indeed the best at what they did.Although I was just a very young child I was a fan through my fathers. Taste , which I thank God I was exposed to the Greatest entertainers to ever stand in front of a microphone.

The Monitors did do a fantastic job on this, but the tempts put the icing on the cake. David leading, Eddie on top in the background with Otis and Paul covering the middle and Melvin on the bottom. The Tempts where too good on this one. I thank God I was alive too buy this great music and too see this great group perform live at the Regal theater in Chicago back in 1966!

A little song title history (not saying the following is where the songwriter got the title from though). Back in the day, the 60's, one of the popular greetings or sayings when you called someone wasn't "Hey" or "Hey You." it was "Say" or "Say You." Though I'm originally from Detroit, my family moved to St. Louis in 1963-68. Seems as if everyone was saying "Say" or "Say You" instead of as I stated earlier the "Hey you's." The first time I ever heard this song my mind immediately went back to that time of my youth. Also just as in an early forgettable song the Tempts recorded titled "Isn't She Pretty," There's a line where Eddie sings in a very high voice, "No, No, No you don't "Rate." You ain't got just what it takes;" (some people thinks this is "Al" Bryant's voice and not Eddie's. Personally I think it's Al that's singing lead on this one).Well in the same vein as above I remember when my sister's friends would come over they would be talking about boys they liked or disliked. Anyway when someone would say "How about Alfonso or some other dude. One of the girls would say "Naw, He "don't "Rate." Which meant there was no interest in him because he didn't have 'just what it takes.' Now just what "IT" was you have to use your imagination.

I've heard the Monitors' version and it's nice, but this is the version that I remember. It has a certain kind feel to me that the other doesn't.( My opinion.) With that said,I'm going with THIS version.

This group was the greatest because they had everything - strong leads and blended voices in harmony with a clear top, middle and bottom. The dance steps and fine clothing made the package complete. I totally agree with the comment about other groups that could not measure up - how could they?
