@SoulStylistJukeBox- my understanding is that Joe Smooth, the artist, did not approve of the cover version, but, because he sold all the rights to a manager (via a contract he didn't quite understand) Style Council got to cover it without him knowing, and, in fact, the Council version was released in the UK first, leaving Joe Smooth to look like the artist doing the cover version.That is the story I heard, and, of course, it is Joe Smooth's version of the story, so perhaps it is just bitterness

Always thought this was a piss poor imitation. Stopped Joe Smooth from ever getting a number one as well. Should have been 'covered' a couple of months/years later. I agree that this was a rip off, it was covered too close to the original.

Blatent rip-off? It's called a cover version. I prefer the original myself but there's a huge difference between a cover and a rip off.
