Not a bad song but lacked the quality and melody of the earlier style council albums.  To his detriment, Paul went for more of an 80's R&B feel on this album instead of the jazz and  traditional soul which influenced his earlier work.

Classic halcyon days from TSC. Why can't Weller produce blue eyed soul like this anymore. Try as he might, he cant escape his past.

"the cost of loving" what a gem of an album, from start to finish. along with "our favourite shop" my fave lp from TSC's catalogue. and still (just read contemporary review of the album in 'Paul Weller uncut ultimate music guide') so unappreciated that is almost ridiculous. not to mention how it was slated my music "journos" when it came out.
