Heavy Metal Machine

MACHINA/The Machines of God (2000)

Written by Billy Corgan

Perfomed by The Smashing Pumpkins

Lyrics:

If I were alive

If I were real

Would you survive?

What would you feel?

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

As sentimental

As our broken dreams

Let me die

For rock 'n' roll

Let me die

To save my soul

Let me die

Let me die

Rock 'n' roll

Let the world

Forgive the past

Let all the girls

Kiss the boys at last

Let me go

Let me go

Rock 'n' roll

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

Heavy metal

A heavy metal machine

We're the metal

In their metal machines

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

If I were dead

Would my records sell?

Could you even tell?

Is it just as well?

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

It's elemental

To all the rust it brings

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

Let me die

For rock 'n' roll

Let me die

And save my soul

Let me go

Let me go

Rock 'n' roll

Let the world

Forgive the past

Let all the girls

Kiss the boys at last

Let me go

Let me go

Rock 'n' roll

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

Heavy metal

A heavy metal machine

We're the metal

In their droning schemes

Heavy metal

Heavy metal machine

Will I survive?

Is it up to me?

Could you understand

That it's not yours to keep?

I really like the sound of this track. I first heard it about 7 years ago on a youtube video about bodybuilder workouts. Really went well with the footage.

I truly believe most of the pumpkins sound can be considered masterpieces

The Mellon Collie album set the bar so ridiculously high for the pumpkins; it was tough to follow up. This album today would probably be considered a masterpiece.

Machina is massively underrated. It didn't sell because the music is too space/mellow/dark - a sound which most people won't get

This song gets SLATED amongst fans and i really can't see why! Its got awesome riffs, an amazing guitar sound and a cool concept to the lyrics. Somebody explain whats wrong with it!

I feel like this album was a sequel to Adore...At least that's what I get from it....

I think the guitar reminds me of Pearl Jam. It just sounds very Pearl Jam. Love the song

One of the best intro riffs.

It was a great follow up after an album like Adore, which I felt at the time of its release, was not a good album to follow Mellon Collie, especially seeing how it was that album that got me into them.

I remember getting the cassette single of this song years ago. God was I pissed when my tape player ate it. and I don't understand why so many people don't like this album either.

Personally, I really do think that 'Glass and the Ghost Children' is not only the best track on the album, but maybe the greatest song in their entire catalogue. But this song is great too.

Galapogos or half the other songs off of Mellon Collie make better sleeping songs :)

I have to agree with you a bit, but when you listen to the alternate version of it you realize this isn't that bad :P Whenever I listen to it I restart the song after the 2nd chorus. xD

Favorite SP song right here. I love his change of voice in the chorus! :D
