Hate to dampen your idea, but every person registers a different meaning to every different piece of art. The people who have perfected forms of art are successful because they have made their material the most accessible to the largest amount of people. The artists intent is irrelevant, only that the reciever gets some kind of personal message out of it.

Not to put dampen on your love, but I think what makes this song beautiful is that is applicable to almost everyone who has left high school. Stress and challenge are something everybody faces when they enter the work world or college and dealing with it can be incredibly hard. Sometimes you just want to fly the whole mess into the sea.

I went on a camping trip with a cute guy who let me listen to his music. This was one of the songs that we listened to together and for years afterwards I couldn't remember it. Then, today I suddenly had this idea that it had something to do with pilgrims...then I found it. Now everything feels like I'm in the past as I listen and it's rather lovely :)
