My school also is doing this production this weekend. I saw it last night it was fabulous ! Lily was a student who graduated two years ago because the girl who originally was going to play her had surgery and was unable to. Colin was our directors son(6th grader) and switched with another 6th grader. He was so cute (:

My school just put on the secret garden production last week and a senior was lily and she is amazing she hit the high notes perfectly and Mary was a 7th grader who also was perfect! Archie was a senior too btws

Hey, I believe the Lily on this recording had trouble hitting the high notes at the end, so they changed it for her. The actual score has a different ending that goes a bit higher.

Does anyone know what the deal is with this ending to the song? This is the only officially recorded version of the song, but it would seem they changed it for all the following productions of the show to the more bombastic 'I am lost!' ending, which I personally prefer. Anyone know what happened to this one, and how long it was actually in the show?

Speak for yourself - I love Quast, but I'd choose Mandy Patkins' Archie over his any day, especially considering Quast sang most of his parts in a lower key - I don't much like that they adjusted the character's range to suit his.

It was Colin. But the whole song is about various characters who are sad and lonely, who all "cry" in their turn, so it ends up being about more than just one person. Mary hears Colin crying; Ghost!Lily hears Archibald crying, and the various other ghosts (at least I think that's what the Chorus of people at the end of the song is supposed to be) hear Mary crying.
