The Rose was written by Amanda McBroom in 1979 for the same film in honor of Janis Joplin. And she sings her own well-known song herself. Bette Midler had great success with this song. The song was covered many times, including Barbra Streisand, LeAnn Rimes, Bonnie Tyler, the Kelly Family, Westlife, Joan Baez and many others...

The direct-to-disk recording made on a Hollywood soundstage is her best. When she tilts her head back and you hear the full effect... Gives me goosebumps.

To my knowledge, Amanda's earliest recording of her song, was on a Sheffield Lab cd which she shared with Lincoln Mayorga It certainly precedes this recording. I don't know of a recorded version she sings with anyone else. I think on "Dreaming" she harmonizes with herself and has coral backing [as with this recording]. . But of course there may be several I don't know off.

Some say love, it is a river - บางคนว่าความรักคล้ายกับสายน้ำThat drowns the tender reed - ซึ่งท่วมล้ำทำลายลำไม้อ่อนSome say love, it is a razor - บ้างว่ารักเหมือนมีดบาดใจขาดรอนThat leaves your soul to bleed - เหลือเลือดร้อนไหลรินรดวิญญาณSome say love, it is a hunger - บ้างว่าความรักคล้ายกระหายหิวAn endless, aching need - พาโลดลิ่วปวดแปลบใจแสบซ่านI say love, it is a flower - ฉันว่ารักคือดอกไม้มาลัยมานAnd you it's only seed - เธอมองผ่านว่าเป็นเกล็ดเมล็ดพันธุ์It's the heart afraid of breaking - มันคือหัวใจที่รัว... กลัวสลายThat never learns to dance - มิรู้ร่ายเริงตามติดความฝันIt's the dream afraid of waking - คือฝันดีที่กลัวตื่นฟื้นโดยพลันThat never takes the chance - ไม่มีวันฉวยโอกาสที่อาจมีIt's the one who won't be taken, - มันคือคนผู้ไม่พร้อมจะยอมก้มWho cannot seem to give - ไม่นิยมที่จะให้โดยใช่ที่And the soul afraid of dying - คือวิญญาณกลัวสลายคลายธุลีThat never learns to live - มิได้ใช้ชีวีที่มีมาAnd the night has been too lonely - และยามค่ำคืนเล่า... ก็เปล่าเปลี่ยวAnd the road has been too long - ทางลดเลี้ยวก็ไกลเกินไปกว่าAnd you think that love is only - และเธอคิดว่ารักนั้นเป็นบรรณาFor the lucky and the strong - ของบรรดาผู้โชคดีที่แข็งแรงJust remember in the winter - จำไว้ว่าฤดูหนาวจะคราวไหนFar beneath the bitter snow - ลึกลงใต้หิมะพร่างน้ำค้างแข็งLies the seed that with the sun's love, - มีเมล็ดพันธุ์ซึ่งรังสีสุรีย์แยงIn the spring, becomes a rose. - จนยอดแทง เผยภาพ กุหลาบงาม

As a songwriter it is so good to hear the interpretation of the songwriter herself.

Thank you for putting this up. For me this is one of the most exquisitely written, truthful songs of all time, whether it is about personal love or universal love.

Superb voice and love the way it starts off simple and slowly builds then back to the slow tempo for the ending. Well done and an Excellent song filled with Wisdom. Thanks to Amanda for the gift this song is.

This song was truly done justice by this Artist. Truly Beautiful. I will place it in my Janis Joplin File on my You-Tube Channel; for it truly does honor to her.
