If I'm not mistaken, after the period of very heavily synthesized music--not that it's bad--but I remember there seemed to be a swing back to simple guitars, drums, in the late 70s and early 80s. I think Tom Petty was in that resurgence, the Kings, too, and as someone wrote here, Valens, Lennon and Holly have to be smiling down on them.

Hearing this for a first time. Superb! Some common ground with The Knack without trying to steal of The Knack's thunder. Early Hollies-like harmonies.

Used to see these guys all the time at the Firebarn in Syracuse, NY, 78-80. I still have this single too.

This kinda brings out the Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly in all of us. For the first time I heard Marshall Crenshaw (and this great band). THANKS for posting this!

I'd like to rename this song, "Tell It To Kelly" (for my junior-high crush). I dig the basic guitar riffs in this one. Clean and simple.

A dash of The Hollies here. For walking arm-in-arm with your gal down a sun-lit sidewalk on the perfect spring day.

John Lennon and Ritchie Valens are smiling down on all those who listen to this. This one goes out to Marshall Crenshaw, The Smithereens and The Plimsouls. "Power-Pop" por vida!

Somehow, I knew that "What I Like About You" was going to be a hit. After the first time I heard it in late '79, I was re-hooked on that throw-back 60s Pop sound. This one has a bit of that guys-hanging-'round-the-street-corner vocal style (bot not true Doo-Wop). A bit guitar "twang" from The Choir ("It's Cold Outside") as well. Special thanks to Little Steven Van Zandt for playing this one last Sunday night (on The Underground Garage Halloween show).

Wally sings lead on the album version for sure though maybe not on the Bomp! version. John sang lead on Roll Over Beethoven back in the club days, though.

@hectorsalinasisback It was Wally. At least that's how I remember it. Used to see them at the Firebarn in Syracuse all the time back in the day.

@herbalist110377 Thanks, I'm not sure what I had as a kid. Perhaps the 45. Still good.
