The Rolling Stones on "Big Beat '65", an Australian TV show, Melbourne, 29 januari '65. The performance was all playback, so I decided to try and enhance the sound a bit. * Hope you like it. Brian Jones played slide guitar AND harmonica (though Mick Jagger is miming the harmonica on this video). Brian's outstanding musical capabilities made this song to this day the only time a blues song has ever topped the British pop charts: it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on december 5, 1964 where it stayed for one week.

"Little Red Rooster" was recorded September 2, 1964, at Regent Sound in London. Others state that it was recorded at the Chess studio's in Chicago, which I doubt, for in that studio several outstanding early Rolling Stones songs were recorded in true stereo..

By the way: can anyone tell me who that guy is at 0.33 seconds? He definitely is not a member of The Rolling Stones...

Recorded September 2, 1964. Released as a UK single on November 13, 1964, and was a #1 hit. Released in the US on the album "The Rolling Stones Now" on February 12, 1965. November 4, 1966 on "Big Hits (high tide and gren grass)".

Electric slide guitar & harp: Brian Jones. Vocal: Mick Jagger. Acoustic guitar: Keith Richards. Drums: Charlie Watts. Bass: Bill Wyman.

LITTLE RED ROOSTER

(Willie Dixon)

I am the little red rooster

Too lazy to crow for day

I am the little red rooster

Too lazy to crow for day

Keep everything in the farm yard upset in every way

The dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl

Dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl

Watch out strange cat people

Little red rooster's on the prowl

If you see my little red rooster

Please drive him home

If you see my little red rooster

Please drive him home

Ain't had no peace in the farm yard

Since my little red rooster's been gone

Brian Jones was one of the first white musicians to master the slide guitar. He had a lot of soul for a posh boy from Cheltenham. His work continues to speak for him from the grave.

I am a Beatles fan although I love the Stones too. Love George's slide but whan might Brian have accomplished had he not messed himself up. A lot of people blame Kieth and Mick but Brian did it to himself. The slide here is real blues. Brian and George RIP

This song was not recorded at Chess Studios in Chicago ( check Felix Aeppli Complete Rolling Stones recording sessions ) it was recorded in London ( too bad I would have liked to be a Chess Master!! different dates and recording locations are known. Wyman recalled that the song was recorded September 2, 1964, at Regent Sound in London

Wonderful edit.  This was apparently Brian's favourite Rolling Stones' single (source: Paul Jones, former lead singer of Manfred Mann and Bluesband, also a great friend of Brian's).  I hate to disagree with anything you say, since you give us such a lot of pleasure, but I do think "House of the Rising Sun" also qualifies as a Blues record, don't you?
