I think there is no question that this song is about sexual abuse in the family. Great song. Very sad! I love their harmonies in all their songs.

in 1982 I got my first VCR. After I hooked it up, I turned on PBS and these 3 strange chicks were singing. I quickly got my first blank tape out of its box and made my first recording. 32 years later I still have that tape and we drag it out and play it again. It's getting a bit dodgy by now.Saw Maggie and Suzzy live at some little venue in Philly in the late 90's or early 00's and met them after the show. Still as great as ever.

Love the Roches and their unusual songs. Saw them in Boulder, Colorado in...'85 or so. My kids like them too. Timeless.

I saw them once at the Coach House in So Cal in the early 90s. Never forgot how beautiful and talented they were. I was only feet from them and cried.

Thank God I found some other comments on here! There were none for some other wonderful songs, and I was starting to think I was the only one who intended to leave a message...The Roches are amazing! Are they still recording new music or touring?? Anyone??

I love this song too - it's possibly my favourite Roches composition - but I don't think it implies anything other than the tendency within 'the family' to be wild and rebellious. I love the ending verse - how the narrator recalls the night she conceived the child she's about to pass the rebellious gene onto: kid, you're gonna run in the family....welcome to it. I think it's also, conversely, a very family-oriented message, for that reason!

I love this song, thank you for posting it. It's kind of scary the way it implies unspeakable family crimes, and impressive the way it sort of leaves it up to the listener to imagine what they were. I'm glad it's not more clear about what the crimes were. A great song, surprised it's not covered more.

Electrifying. Can we be the only people who think its much better than anything else they've done.
