The Last was the first Replacements song I ever heard, a friend bringing it over on a blue-mooned New Year's Eve that separated 1990 from 1991, prior to us hitting the bars in southern Illinois with hearts on our sleeves and looking for a lay. For most of my adult life, it's been my favorite song, and provided a 32nd-hand introduction to the Mats that I never let go of.
