The Red Chord isn't grindcore in the slightest (see old Napalm Death, Phobia, and/or Carcass), nor would they qualify as anything remotely close to black metal (seriously?). I am not a fan of breaking everything down into genres, but if you were to accurately classify The Red Chord, they'd fall under technical metalcore. Nothing about their sound is true grind, deathcore, or black metal. Do your homework, little boys.

The time that I hung out with them we did not really discuss that, Mike and Greg just explained different scales/modes to me and gave me contact information so I could evolve as a better player. They are put under the label of Grindcore, but then again some critics have called them black metal, the best thing to do would be to ask Mike on twitter or Greg and ask them what genre they defined, I can't speak for them.
