@deepwells48 Fair point. I actually saw the Real McKenzies last night and they were pretty great. I don't have a problem with that per se, it's more when it becomes nationalistic and militant based on fantasy that it gets up my nose. A certain Bostonian musician came to Scotland a few months ago and openly stated support for the IRA, an organisation that had a habit of making bombs and killing indiscriminantly. If the bombs were in cafes in Boston i doubt his support would still be there.

The problem with people being proud of their "Scottish blood" or their "Scottish roots" is that they imagine Scotland as some mystical place with rolling hills, log fires, cottages & shortbread. The reality is that Scotland has massive pockets of poverty the same as everywhere else, is littered with McDonalds, Starbucks, and Subway stores the same as everywhere else and idiots still hate each other on the basis of race, religion and belief the same as everywhere else. Oh, and we dont have clans.
