The Rationals were the first real band I ever heard and the sound was so balanced. People under-estimate how powerful Scott Morgan's voice was. He could blow out candles from a block away.

My grandma cleaned house for Scott's parents in her later years. I remember going over there with her. I asked her '"Grandma, doesn't their music bother you?" (I guess they practiced in the basement-at least sometimes) She was already like 70 or so then She said "No not at all. It's fine with me" That shocked me as she was from a time practically before Lawerence Welk (O:

T h a n k * y o u * :-) I have never understood how all of these yrs. the oldie station would only play Aretha Franklin's version instead of the REAL version, which was done by the Rationals.......

Aretha WHO????? This is the ORIGINAL version of the song and, for me, it is so much better than what A.F. does... BY FAR!! Seems like people think that's HER song when it's NOT!!! It was done by the Rationals before she ever thought about doing it..... AND I LIVE IN THE DETROIT AREA.... Saw the RATIONALS at an area mall in the 60's.and I have always felt like Aretha Franklin had hi-jacked that song and totally ruined it for me....So grateful to hear it again here. Used to have the single too.

I definitely loved this version much better than Aretha's. Great local Detroit hit in 1966 from a very underrated group. I know Otis Redding wrote it and recorded it first and Aretha had a huge hit with it, but this version is a great rock and roll garage sound.

I went to the Ann Arbor District library with my friend Jenny Compton and her uncle Scott Morgan today, it was a pretty neat car ride :D

Otis did it first. But even this version came before Aretha's. Also a version by Johnny Rivers came before Aretha Franklin's

@Wehategod No, definitely not. The Rationals were and are Scott Morgan, Bill Figg, Terry Trabandt and Steve Correll.

I saw these guys live at the Michigan State Fair Grounds ( the Mod Wedding ) and at the Auto Rama ( Cobo Hall ) back in the late sixties. Oh yes, I have that exact 45rpm record to this very day. ( 2010 ) I am sixty years old now.

Wasn't Bob Seger a member of this Group at one time or another

@mikeonthe7th -- That's a great garage band out of ANN ARBOR...

This should have been a world-wide smash. Scott Morgan nails this as does the band.
