Got tired of searching for this, so this one's homegrown. The Rascals were one of the best bands of the sixties, and this is one of their best songs. Enjoy the upbeat and positive vibe of this song - it transcends generations and musical eras. Dino Danelli is one of the most underrated drummers in the history of rock and roll!

Originally released by Atlantic Records in 1969, from the album SEE. Currently available through Collector's Choice.

Written by Felix Cavaliere

LYRICS:

Things ain't like they used to be

Love's the only thing I see

Wings of life are taking flight

From the darkness to the light

I used to try and fly away

Upon the flood of dreams

Tasting all the good and bad

From on the serpents tree

Little ones remind us of a place we used to be

Echoes of the ever land

Discover who you really am

Rivers rushing to the sea

Love is flowing endlessly

Drops of rain are never lost

Soul and spirit to its source

Saw you in a fairy tale

Or was it just a dream

White and yellow jasmine trees

Times a mere machine

Flashes of a new year light up a stellar sky

Love is really everywhere to see it is to fly

Things ain't like they used to be

If you want to you can see

Words of love on chestnut trees

Written by sweet memories

While we are riding on the avenues of time

The bird of life drinks from the cups of wine

Waits until we're ready for

The princes gift of love

Things ain't like they used to be

Love's the only thing I see

Wings of life are taking flight

From the darkness to the light

Secret mirror photographs,

Shining in your eyes

I'm married to the universe,

My brother is the sky

Stars can see to make a wish

And hearts with wings can fly

Come with me and see my love

So we can never die

Rivers rushing to the sea

Love is flowing endlessly

Drops of rain are never lost

soul and spirit to its source

Thanks, Durktle...a rare one, indeed. Lots going on in this song, even some harmonica near the end. 8)

one of the best american songs of the late sixties, but completly underrated. i took from radio to my old tape by microphone, still have the tapes with lots of songs, never played again in radio, but on youtube, and that is fine in times of actual stupid music taste

I bought this on 45 rpm when I was about twelve years old. It signaled a shift in my musical taste from top forty pop to a heavier hard rock sound.

It was the best end to my high school years--3 day rock fest in our own "backyard". Graduated from granada hills high in june 1969.

The Rascals, Chamber's Bros, 3 Dog Night AND Jimi Hendrix! WOW! That must have been the best.

The Reunion tour is coming to Phoenix in October for 5 dates. My husband says, "We will be there!" See is his FAVORITE Rascal song. Yet it is so over looked, it's not even on their GH album.

Just went to Once Upon a Dream. Was in Toronto. If you get a chance go to this show, they are playing as good as ever and have someone playing bass, a keyboardist/singer and three backup singers. Really great show but expensive. At the beginning there was an announcement by Little Steven saying to record away so I guess you should be able to upload anything from those shows. The CD they are selling at the show is from Rhino so they have the rights to this music now.

Listen closely!.... hear that bass drum foot?!! I don't think Dino played a double-bass kit at any time - that is just precision drumming, with total control and mastery of his craft. Rock on Dino!

I challenge EMI to block my 3 45 videos

You are not alone friend. many have sacrificed for the cause (me and tokenhippie. others.) EMI has no leg to stand on. YOUTUBE trusted EMI - which is a pile of carp. EMI tries to block anything- there is no EMI laws by the way. If I choose to post a 45 by TJ and the Shondells - EMI has no jurisdiction - its up to tj and the record company -NOT EMI

Best song ever by the Rascals. Saw them in '69 at Devonshire Downs (San Fernando Valley, CA). They shared the night with the Chambers Bros and Three Dog Night (3-day festival with Jimi Hendrix). So upbeat!!!!!
