This actually takes place before the Amory Wars through the perspective of Jesse. It takes place in the present day world. (P.S. Good Apollo and The Amory Wars are the same story. Good Apollo just has a different way of telling the story.)

So he leaves the solar system that the story takes place in, and gets resurrected in the present day. But before he can tell the story of the Amory Wars, he needs to tell the story of the Blood Machine." That was Claudio in an interview

@mattattack1221 This isn't a prequel this is a spinoff, after the fall of House Atlantic, Jesse escapes by stepping through the willing well which spits him out into a random place in the Writers (or our) universe, and this is Jesse telling the story of the going on's of the town he ended up in.
