Band: The Pretty Things

Song: Trust

Album. S.F. Sorrow

Lyrics:

"Excuse me please as I wipe a tear

Away from an eye that sees there's nothing left to trust

Finding that their minds are grey

And there's no sorrow in the world that's left to trust.

Sitting on top of a white cloud

Looking round for someone there to trust

Changing your mind as you go through time

You grasp at straws,

There are written laws that say you must

With tired eyes you follow the man

That has in his hand a banner that says 'dust to dust'

Finding that his mind's gone wrong

And there's no sorrow in the world that's left to trust.

Sitting on top of that white cloud

Looking round for someone there to trust

You're changing your mind as you go

Through a time

You grasp at straws

But there are written laws that say you must.

Going away in the morning

You're seen walking.

We're going away, away

Going away.

As the sun was rising

You're seen walking.

She's going away, away

Going away.

Excuse me please as I wipe a tear

Away from an eye that sees there's nothing left to trust

Finding that their minds are grey

And there's no sorrow in the world that's left to trust.

Sitting on top of that white cloud

Looking for someone there to trust

Changing your mind as you go through time

You grasp at straws

But there are written laws that say you must."

SF Sorrow is on of the GREAT UK Psychedelic albums! I saw them perform it at an All Niter at The Lyceum in London back in the day. Quite Something!!!!

Better than the Beatles, better than the Beach Boys !! The Pretties should have been enormous (but that's another story)

The Beatles revolver has points above sgt pepper and it could exist quite nicely without pet sounds.

Trust - The Pretty Things [England] - 1968 - "One of their BEST. Further BEATLES-esque comparisons may also be drawn from May, Waller, and Povey's mastery of three-part harmony vocals. Very good guitar." - The Psychedelic Years (Snapper Disc 1)-2001. One of my better UK band finds. :-) NOTE: If there's a band that deserves a good compilation, it's the Pretty Things. Thankfully, Snapper has the rights to the band's entire catalog, and has done an excellent job of remastering individual albums.

@FlynnyRT Hey man there's a lot of incredible bands from the sixties and seventies that more people should know. Big Star, Tomorrow, Love, Moby Grape, Spirit, Chocolate Watchband, Bubble Puppy, Demian, and Morning just to name a few.

@SuperBlackWalrus I think it's a shame to listen to Sgt. Pepper's WITHOUT debating--and reflection. For one thing, it's well known that there's a lot of Pet Sounds in there, which is a fine source to draw on. So does the fact that Sgt. Pepper's as we know would not exist without Pet Sounds make Pet Sounds the greater album?! As to S.F. Forrow, I like it a lot and think it's really underrated but at least it's place in history is clear because it heavily influenced Tommy by The Who.

@SuperBlackWalrus What do you mean? I love SF Sorrow. I also love Sgt Pepper. So, which is definitively "best"? Well, both push different boundaries. Both are fantastically experimental. Both are packed with great ideas and strong melodies. Sgt Pepper is (debatably) overrated and SF Sorrow, underrated. One could throw Forever Changes, Odessey and Oracle and Moby Grape's first album into the mix too if you like? But "best" is surely a subjective thing when it comes to music.
