"Le mie sorelle ed io

Abbiamo un desiderio prima di morire

E potrebbe sembrare strano

Come se le nostre menti fossero impazzite

Per favore non chiederci perché

Sotto il cielo che ci protegge

Abbiamo questa strana ossessione

Tu hai i mezzi in tuo possesso

Tè nel Sahara con te

Tè nel Sahara con te

Il ragazzo ha accettato

Avrebbe soddisfatto il loro desiderio

Allora hanno danzato per il suo piacere

Con una gioia incommensurabile

Lo aspettano qui

Lo stesso posto ogni anno

Sotto il cielo che protegge

Volerà attraverso il deserto

Tè nel Sahara con te

Tè nel Sahara con te

Tè nel Sahara con te

Tè nel Sahara con te

Il cielo è diventato nero

Tornerà mai

Hanno scalato una duna alta

Hanno pregato alla luna

Ma lui non è mai tornato

Allora le sorelle sono bruciate

Mentre gli occhi scrutavano il terreno

Con le tazze ancora piene di sabbia

Tè nel Sahara con te."

Just finished reading The Sheltering Sky and I loved it. Thanks for the recommendation Sting :P Bowles writes with some the most vivid imagery that I've ever read. Quite a depressing read but beautiful at the same time.

I went to Morocco and became obsessed with this song. I played it on my MP3 player over and over again in the desert at midnight under the starry sky and in the morning admiring the sunny dunes. Probably I was dreaming of prince charming too :-))) That's the Sting effect.

Just read Paul Bowles' "The Sheltering Sky," and I realized that book is where the writer of this song got his inspiration (I will have to see who that is). The song is a beautiful way of thinking about and poetically expressing the ideas of the novel, and of the story told by the Arab man to the protagonist early on in the book about three sisters and tragic unrequited love. I encourage any of you who are interested to read the book and enjoy learning about the connections between the novel and the song.
