On this day in 1979 {April 25th} the Police made their debut on British television when they appear on the program ''Top of the Pops'...The trio performed "Roxanne"; and at the time the song was in its first week on the United Kingdom's Singles chart, eighteen days later on May 13th it would peak at #12 {for 1 week}...While in the U.S.A. "Roxanne"* was in its first of two weeks at #32 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and that would also be its peak position on the chart and it spent 13 weeks on the Top 100...Between 1978 and 1997 the trio had thirteen Top 100 records; four made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Every Breath You Take" for 8 weeks in 1983...* Eighteen years later in late 1997 "Roxanne" re-entered the Top 100 as "Roxanne '97”, it was a remix by Puff Daddy & the Police, and on January 4th, 1998 it peaked at #59 {for 3 weeks} and like the original, it also spent 13 weeks on the Top 100...
