You people fall all over yourselves when you can't tell the difference between good music and shit. This is the worst version of this song I've ever heard. The last Pogues concert I went to, I was expecting Shane MacGowen. But MacGowen was kicked out of the band in mid-tour due to his heroin abuse. So Strummer filled in and did an excellent job. Including this song. It was great. At this point in his life, Strummer really did not have the energy to perform all out live on a concert stage. Watch the video again. Strummer appears tired. There's a reason he began to prefer producing to performing music. I don't think he knew it, but it's possible that he intuited it. He had a heart problem. One that would eventually kill him.Strummer is portrayed as a working class bloke. But the fact of the matter is that he was born in Turkey. His father was a diplomat working in the foreign service for the UK. He grew up amidst wealth and received the best education money could buy. Strummer never knew poverty nor privation.Irony: the same can be said for Shane MacGowen. He grew up in, what Americans would call, the upper-middle class. Shane attended and was kicked out of all of the best schools in England. Well, most of them. Drugs. He could have gone to Oxford or Cambridge. But he chose drugs instead.

Makes no sense -- and definitely defied the odds -- that Shane's outlived Strummer. Dude upstairs has a weird sense of humor. But this is epic. Enjoy.
