The Phantom of the Opera

(Soundtrack - Movie 2004).

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation

Darkness wakes and stirs imagination

Silently the senses abandon their defenses

Helpless to resist the notes i write

For I composed the music of the night

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour

Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender

Hearing is believing

Music is deceiving

Hard as lightning, soft as candle light

Dare you trust the music of the night..

Close your eyes for your eyes will only tell the truth

And the truth isn't what you want to see

In the dark it is easy to pretend..

That the truth is what it aught to be...

Softly, deftly, music shall caress you

Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you

Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind

In this darkness which you know you cannot fight

The darkness of the music of the night

Close your eyes start a journey through a strange, new world

Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before

Close your eyes and let music set you free

Only there can you now belong to me

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication

Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation

Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in

To the power of the music that I write

The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight

Help me make the music of the night

I like how he's just like "Ignore everything else, Christine, and just focus on me. In case you're wondering who's singing, that's me. Yes, I'm singing to you. I wrote this song myself. I wrote this just for you, Christine."

Blech...unpopular opinion I guess, but this version sucks. I can see how it might appeal if it's the first time you've ever really heard it. But, please for the love of god listen to a Broadway vet sing this song and then come back and tell me that this is anything better than moderately passable. :/

Is it just me, or does it seem like his option on sleep is more suicidal than not? Because he says, "may your spirit begin to soar," and is singing about how dreams take you to better places than the environment you currently hold. It also stresses on "giving in" to the 'sleep', which basically translates to giving in to your internal pain and committing suicide.

I would so fall for him if I wasn't interested in girls :) I learned to see beyond the appearance and can easily find the real person within :)

Phantom has been my favorite musical since I was 5 (I'm a Broadway freak!). I remember going to see this with my parents (they love it to) in the theatre when I was maybe 7 or 8. It one of the few movie musicals that does a good honest representation of the stage version (obviously no perfect, but still)
