Hi J. Mahoney! The Banjo Sonny's playing here, is his famous "6-String," which was built for him by the now late, Rual Yarborough.Several years ago, Sonny let Raymond McClain use it to record with. I've heard it said that Raymond now owns that Banjo, but I can't say for sure.I'm not sure if that Banjo is "officially" considered a Vega. Rual Yarborough WAS working for Martin, & building some of their Vega instruments at that time, but I think perhaps Vega let Rual build it kinda "off the record!"If you ever see close up pics of that Banjo, it does not read "Vega" on the headstock. It reads: "Sonny Osborne!" :-)

Hi Im 53 now but would like to tell you an old story, the Osborne brothers use to come to my grampas house back in the 40s (Thay was my grandpas cousin} and the first thing thay did when the came over was go to the closite and get out papaws banjos, in hyden ky that was all they did play music, all the house had some kind of music. My granpa Billy jones and Nola jones Lived in Hyden Ky and ran a post office and the store for the cole miners. My ant helen went to see them one time in the 70s but they did not acknowledge her. They moved to dayton ohio and started thir life. o and by the way they are kin to Tim Couch (he was a gook football player for ky}, the hensley's, the Sismores and the jones's {Thats were i come in} thats my grandpa that they came to see when they was little. I live in S.C. now but love blue grass. I could tell yu more storys of the late 60s but i wont. take care and love one another. Timothy
