I've Got You In My Soul -- a tune from the near-mythic Mynah Birds sessions recorded at Motown Records studios on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan on January 19th and 21st 1966 under the supervision of Mickey Stevenson and Jeffrey Bowen. The song features 17-year old Rick Super Freak James on vocals and Neil Young on guitar, along with future Buffalo Springfield bass player Bruce Palmer, guitarist Little Johnny Taylor and Rickman Mason on drums. This song was originally called Little Girl (copyright BMI 1965 Decca Record Co. Ltd.) and was written by Van Morrison and recorded by Them. It remains officially unreleased and is the property of Universal Music Group. Columbia and Motown's logos are registered trademarks. Photographs copyright R. Mason, B. Lind, T. Morgan and their respective photographers.

Neil has always been a funky dude with total soul and meeting Rick James was a match made in Heaven. Then Rick got busted by Navy Mps for being AWOL!

sounds like 63 stones and 64 lou reed primitives dirty rhythm gtrs, trouble was it was 1966 Detroit but rick is brilliant, starts out clichéd n harmless and progressively unravels

Sounds like Mick and the Boys in the early years.

Legend has it that Motown was reluctant to release this as a single because the supposedly "original" song sounded a little too much like Them's "Little Girl" for comfort...

I once had a tape of 10 songs that they did one better than the next. They were all live. I've been searching for that music for the last 25 years. If anyone knows how to get a hold of the songs I'd be greatly grateful.

My my never in a million years I would have imagined this. Rick James and Neil Young together in a band. Nice surprise though both great musicians in their own right.
