About:

Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 30th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.

I wish people would use their brains and stop this pointless debate over who sounds better in theater vs movie versions of musicals. You're comparing apples and oranges. Movie versions are movies, they need to hire actors. You know, people whose talent and life is devoted to acting, not singing. And while I'm sure there are actors out there who are also well trained in singing, if they want to make a movie for general public consumption, they need to hire relatively well known actors, who are most likely not going to have any musical training. They try their best to find the ones that can sing pretty well, and it's a pleasant surprise when they're actually pretty good at singing. As opposed to stage versions, where the focus is singing and so they find singers who happen to be able to act a bit too. I'm sure the best theater performers wouldn't be able to hold a candle onscreen to the movie actors if they were acting side by side with no music involved. So you get two choices if you want to watch these musicals: the version that's focused more on the music, and the version that's focused more on the acting and production. Comparing one single part of them, when their focus is different, is pointless.

This used to be my favorite movie & guilty pleasure when I was in elementary school or something... watching it now, I can' help but think of Star Trek reboot what with all the lense flare but yeah, still love the music. It's still my #1 favorite musical.
