It could have been after Ace Kefford left the band. I think Roy is singing at the lower end of his range. The Colour Me Pop clips that used(?) to be on this site featured The Move singing "The Last Thing On My Mind" with Trevor Burton in the band, so mid '68 is a plausible date for this recording.

@shleml Okay dreadzepplin you win!!! I've just listened to it for the third time and you are right!!!! It's Roy double tracked..... Please accept my apologies.... A little knowledge.....

BY the way it's Jeff singing the lead, Roy joins in on the bridge you muppet!!! A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!

He mentions a Tom Paxton song at the end so that would be "the last thing on my mind" from the Shazam album so it's definitely circa summer 1970. Carl had just left and Jeff had just joined. Mystery solved!!

@shleml I have to respectfully disagree... on re-listening, that's definitely Roy Wood singing the lead. Maybe this was a friendly trade-off for "Lemon Tree."

@dreadzeppelindottv JEFF SINGS IT!! .....but i am confused about when this was actually recorded because Jeff didn't join till spring 1970...(after Shazam), but he had told Roy he would join before that......

I was thinking this was recorded just following the departure of Trevor Burton...

@FinnMove Thank you for the response. I've done a lot of reading on The Move myself, and I've never heard this cover mentioned either. Fascinating in that it's probably my favorite Idle Race song.

@dreadzeppelindottv This is an extreme rarity. This song was maybe performed 1968 or early 1969. Jeff Lynne was then in the Idle Race. Jeff was already then good mates with Roy Wood. Some of their songs were very similar to each other and they even played covers like The Move did here from a great Idle Race song. I admit I didn“t know this cover existed before this song was posted to YouTube !
