This is sad for I live in the state, and love the song. I never saw the girl as being impressed with his actions though. I imagined the cat was fairly delusional and the song kind of riffed on that.

I think it's silly that he's only capable of ascribing that particular interpretation to this song especially considering the thing doesn't once mention the gender of either participant, but I guess getting locked into one interpretation is bound to happen if you're the one who wrote the song.
