It is the version featured on Compendium 75–95 (1996)/The Best of The Monochrome Set (2000) - as far as I know they're the same compilation with different names. I don't know where the version first surfaced though. Seems lots of TMS songs have been released in different versions. I mostly prefer the late versions, but it could be because I heard them first...11 years ago
