When I first got into the monkees ( through Shrek's I'm a Believer), my dad downloaded Headquarters on my mp3 player, and it had this version instead of Micky, and it didn't have No Time. Ah, memories!

I'm hearing some Peter in the vocals there too. I think the call response things are Micky & Peter together.

I love this version with Mike leading, and agree that Micky did very well backing him, but there's just something so hauntingly beautiful about Mike backing. He also does that in Pleasant Valley Sunday. These guys are so close to my heart...

Micky got Mike's backing vocal on the final verse, pretty cool.

this song in particular was an eye-opener, with its Picardy third, and wonderful harpsichord solo...i felt like i had a little secret all to myself back then

listening to the Monkees will always take me back to the fall/winter of '86 when i was in my formative years as a guitarist/musician and i learned alot from them, about chord structures and harmonies, playing my dad's Martin D-35,and just feeling liberated and strong.

Thank you, Mr. Nesmith, for the Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamorra... AND for a great song expressing something between the 1960's lovers... Barnabas & Josette... anyone wondering? Google: The Pit Of Ultimate Dark Shadows... we're gonna find out WHO that girl was... AND get everyone ELSE happy, too! Thank you Michael Nesmith... Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The Dolenz version is better but not by much.

I love, love, love this song! I never heard Mike singing it until now, both versions are great, I can't pick a fave.

This is a pretty perfect song. Kudos to Mike and Peter especially.

Think it's probably a minor third lower. Much better key for me to sing it in, I can say that!

Just heard this version. I like it, however, I feel that Mike's vocal style doesn't quite fit it. I think that Mike knew this, and had Mickey tackle the lead vocal, while he did backing. Regardless, this tune is one of Mikes' best.

Dig the Nez version far better. The slightly lower chord used gives it a better feel compared to the overly-sweet Dolenz version.
