I have a Mike Nesmith encounter story. A stupid encounter, but an encounter none the less. In 1990 they had a five day film convention in Las Vegas called CINETEX which I crashed. On the last day, I got to the theater just as the film was starting. I looked around the darkened theater and saw only one empty seat, in the front row. I took it, kicked back, and enjoyed the movie. At film's end, the emcee came out and said "I will now introduce this year's judges. First, the director of THE GREAT ROCK-N-ROLL SWINDLE, Mr. Julian Temple!" Suddenly, the guy sitting to my right stands, takes a bow, makes a short speech, then goes backstage. The emcee then continued. "Our other judge is a pioneer in music videos, but you all know him best as a member of the Monkees, MR. MICHAEL NESMITH!" The tall guy who's been sitting to my left stands, takes a bow, etc., etc. I sat there with my jaw on the ground. I had just spent the last 90+ minutes sitting next to my favorite member of the Monkees, AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT! Well, I told you it was stupid.

Stephen Stills actually got Peter Tork the Monkees gig when he found out that Don Kirshner would own the rights to any songs he wrote if used with the Monkees. Peter was the only professional musician of the four.

"No heartaches felt no longer lonely, nights of waiting finally won me, happiness that's all rolled up in you. And now with you as inspiration, I look toward a destination sunny bright that once before were blue." <3

Mikey! The only Monkee that had actual music talent.

when I was a teen at seventeen each week in the newspaper there would be an ad that said the monkees are coming and this was the beginning .....

Oh, to open the elevator and see Mike marching out at me! Rather than run away I would fling my arms around him and kiss him!

Mike was easily the best musician in the group, his songs stand the test.

I may have posted previously that I reconnected with a lost love and this is our favorite song when we are together. We have no more than we did before, but now.....oh you know the rest.

One of my all time favorite Nesmith tunes. I love Mickey's background vocals on this!

Peter actually played guitar on this track and Micky harmonized Mike. So you've got three out of the four Monkess on this track.

i knew that Stephen Stills had tried out for the Monkees show but didnt make it, good thing, the music he has made in his life, with CSN, CSNY,and Buffalo Springfield has been much better for him.

actually, if you think about it seriously, Mikes the only one who was SERIOUS about the music. Micky and Davy were famous for acting before THE MONKEES happened, Peter im not sure about.

I don't know why guys from the 60's just look better than guys do now. Their hair was nicer. Maybe if I had a doll of Mike to cuddle and love, I would feel better. The only Monkees dolls they made are a bit too silly looking for my liking though. :/

I print out pictures of Mike and tape them to my wall. I just ordered a magazine pin up of him from Ztams, I hope it comes soon. I keep scouring Plenty of Fish for Mike look-a-likes and found a guy who is originally from Texas but now works in L.A. in television post-production. Actually he looks as if Mike & Micky got together and had a child. Weird.

To those who love Mike, what do you think of that smile as he gets off the elevator? Watch his face the whole segment. Just kills me.

I love the Monkees. Mike is my favorite, and while all four were and are very talented, I think the most talented. In recent videos he still sounds great. BTW, the Monkees have been inducted into the pop music Hall of fame. They deserve it. Rest in peace, Davy. P.S. I loved Mike's wink and smile in the video, too.
