I heard this song for the first time on CBC Radio's q (they use the lowercase letter now), and I was instantly captivated and reminded how great the Mavericks are. More than just country or Tex-Mex, I hear soul, R&B, blues, Beach Boys surf and sand pop, reggae, and other influences in this tune alone. And that "bomp-bomp-bomp-bomp" sticks in my head, and I love it.
