OK EVERYBODY. It's Christmas time and I've waited for months to play Dan Hicks "Carol of the Bells" and "Somebody stole my Santa Claus Suit". Get on there and do it. I't'll make your toes dance. (And your feet and fingers too).

Just listened to Al Jerreau, and he may have preceded Bobby McFerrin in his type of music. Agree? Disagee?

After listening to Al Jerreau, I think he may have preceded Bobby McFerrin's sound. Yes? No?

All I know was Vocalese was probably my favorite of their albums. I was blown away by what they accomplished with this, all voices, no instruments. As someone else said, truly innovators and it seemed at the time, definitely ahead of their time. They were very brave to put this album out - and it was magic.

Just remember: this was done in 1985, when the possibilities of the "a cappella" language were mostly unexplored and Bobby McFerrin sounded like an alien from another galaxy. McFerrin visionary soundscape combined with Hendrick's lyrical pyrotechnics and TMT's versatility created something that still can be felt as contemporary and inspiring.

Thanks for the comments tmontyb. I remember this being on Bobby's album too. One site states that Bobby Mcferrin's Another Night In Tunisia lyrics is the 6th song on the album "Spontaneous Inventions" by Bobby Mcferrin. I think this is the one I'm remembering from a collection my uncle had when I was a teenager. My cousins listened to this a thousand times in awe of all these wonderful artists.

@lockjawunlimited That's not exactly accurate. This is Manhattan Transfers version and they invited McFerrin. Cheryl Bentyne and Bobby McFerrin won a Grammy for this vocal arrangement. This song on the Manhattan Transfer's "Vocalese" . Bobby McFerrin did all the instrumentation and Jon Hendricks wrote the lyrics and actually sings the verses.

I love this piece. Actually, this is Bobby McFerrin's version of the work and he included these wonderful Masters of vocal art to add their magic.. Bobby is actually the genius behind the arrangement of this piece and his voice served as ALL the instrumental sounds and the male scat solo on this . Love Bobby, Love Manhattan Transfer, Love it!!!!
