The Low Anthem combines folk and blues arrangements with the elegance of chamber music and the fervor of gospel. Much of Oh My God is hushed and hymn-like, but the trio throws a clamorous curve with raw, stomp-and-holler tracks like The Horizon Is a Beltway and its version of Home Ill Never Be, a Jack Kerouac song passed via Tom Waits. Members Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, and Jocie Adams—all students of classical composition—bring a wide range of individual interests to the band. Prystowsky is a scholar of baseball, jazz, and American history. Adams, a classical composer and technical wizard, spent summers working an infrared spectrometer at NASA. And Miller, principle songwriter, painter, and general ruminator, can indeed expound upon the theories of Charles Darwin. They have a formidable work ethic, along with the ability to laugh at their maniacal intensity.

i try not to think of the lyrics to literally... on some level, neither are you.. cause those words resonate with you in some way.. its not just the music..

Regardless of the intent of their lyrics, I love it. This song resonates with something deep inside. A provocative song that makes me think. I like that. That's what a work of art is intended to do, IMHO....

True. You said people are meaningless...I'd discuss further with you, but I tend to close up when someone prefaces their first comment to me by telling me my subjective opinion is silly. P.S. I've no fear of my life being meaningless....peace.

I never said that life is meaningless. I simply acknowledge that the universe doesn't exist to make me comfortable and happy. It is up to you to find your own meaning in life. Just because you're afraid that your life has no meaning doesn't mean that you have to go looking for a "creator" to give you meaning. Evolution has given us "meaning" to survive, procreate and ensure the continuation of the species and your gene line. It's up to you to find meaning beyond that.

Hmmm....not less magical, though the magic has been taken out of it....and I'm silly? Silly I may be, but I'm not a nihilist. My advice to you would be to emulate your cold, meaningless planet of meat puppets, and sit and spin... =)

That's silly. Science doesn't make nature any less magical, it only takes the "magic" out of it. It's astonishing that out of the billions of stars and planets, the conditions for life aligned by random chance here. There is beauty in how randomness can produce something as beautiful as Earth. And the cold truth is that the universe goes on if with or without you. We are all meaningless specs in the cosmos trying to find our way and leave a mark before we fade into nothingness.

I Wanna say a gel type substance. TBH I've seen certain hair gels look like that.

Isn't what I take away from it. I see it as a lament for the loss of magical wonder, and the sense that we are possibly not a unique planet, or species in the universe. It is now viewed as a cold machination, and that we are now very alone as a race, and our purpose is now open to question, left to chance and chaos. I personally don't except Darwin's theory as "fact," yet. I believe in an intelligent design, that may or may not have come about via evolution, IMHO.
