Lyrics:
(c) 2015, Verses by Nelson Koscheski, Chorus & Music by Ryan Flanigan
(verse 1)
The lordly ones who seem to rule the seen and unseen realm
Hold goodness, truth and beauty as constraints to be erased,
So they, unhindered by any other will, may take the helm
And be the gods of all that they would grow or see abased.
(verse 2)
You, dear Son, were my darling One long before creation.
Through you I made rule and ruler both, stood them in the light.
Your almighty sway is bounded only by your holy mission
To cleanse from sin, give life, and be my image in plain sight.
(chorus)
Kiss the Son, kiss the Son
The Anointed One
Kiss the Son, kiss the Son
May his kingdom come
(verse 3)
Your scepter shall be gentle kindness to the lowly and meek,
But to the loud and proud you dole frustration and defeat.
Your rule shall be invisible, seemingly absent, even weak
Until you come again to place all things at your Father’s feet.
* Psalm 2 has always been an obscure scripture to me. All that imagery about kings and kisses. What does it all mean? Nelson Koscheski, in his amazing ability to chew it all up and regurgitate something beautiful and plain, has done it again. Listen to these words and hear the proclamation of a loving King who desires not to crush his enemies, but rather is crushed for his enemies. His Kingdom is a kingdom of peace, not won by violence and force, but won by captivating us with something so much better than what the kings of this world offer. Jesus is the Anointed One. He is the image of the invisible God. He loves us immeasurably and is pouring out his Kingdom upon us all, until that final day when he comes once and for all to take his throne, when wickedness and war will be no more, when our hearts will be completely delivered to love the Lord alone and all that he deems good and right. You might want to read Psalm 2 before listening. You'll probably comprehend the song more quickly if you do.
