LOTHLÓRIEN, an Elven theme, represents the culture and people of Lothlórien and Galadriel, herself.

When the melody is sung, those first two lines are from Footsteps of Doom. When the melody progresses past those first two lines and is sung, the source text is Lament for Gandalf (Chorus Text)

n the book, "The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films", Doug Adams says, "The music of LOTHLÓRIEN suggests the maqām hijāz, an Arabic mode..." (page 54). Eli Bildirici posted some additional musings about this at his blog, quarrels of the mind:

Legolas "A lament for Gandalf"Merry "what do they say about him?"Legolas "I cannot say, for me the grief is still too near"The shire, Bree, Moria and the misty mountains are all epic in their own way but Lothlorien just seems so grand in its own way, like its not part of Middle-earth but something else entirely......

Here's something you can't un-see:That huge 'tree' trunk those elves are standing beside is a set piece, but only the trunk. If you look in the reflection of it on the water, you can actually see it's just a stump.

I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew:Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in the branches blew.Beyond the Sun, beyond the Moon, the foam was on the Sea,And by the strand of Ilmarin there grew a golden Tree.Beneath the stars of Ever-eve in Eldamar it shone,In Eldamar beside the walls of Elven Tirion. There long the golden leaves have grown upon the branching years,While here beyond the Sundering Seas now fall the Elven-tears.O Lórien! The Winter comes, the bare and leafless Day;The leaves are falling in the stream, the River flows away.O Lórien! Too long I have dwelt upon this Hither ShoreAnd in a fading crown have twined the golden elanor. But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?

*I know this is mentioned below, buuut* the twelve dislikes are, in this order, Sauron, followed by his puppet Saruman, followed by Nazgul one, Nazgul two, Nazgul three, Nazgul four, Nazgul five, Nazgul six, Nazgul seven, Nazgul eight, Nazgul nine, and Gollum (Or someone *cough cough Sam* accidentally clicked the wrong button, then quickly fixed their mistake.) :-)
