Not Creative

The way I see it, the samples Nujabes used showed his very diverse knowledge of music.

I love them both. What people call "sampling" I call an invite to investigating. Think about it. How are new generations supposed to develop a love for the past without new artists/producers bridging the gap? Stick a new gen directly in a jazz club and they might feel lost and uninterested. Play a sampled track and THEN put them in the same jazz club that is playing the song their heard sampled and you might get them to stay for the whole set. It's genius really. I didn't love jazz until 90's hip hop looped great jazz sounds with their words.

Back in the 1970s... this song existed... and here I thought Nujabes made that up all by himself. Mad respect to his version (well, the sample he extracted) and more so Laurindo Almeida for coming up with this all those years ago. I hope it was appreciated by everyone then as I am now.

I just wanted to let everyone complaining about sampling know... this song is a re-imagined version of Mildred Bailey - The Lamp Is Low (1939). Look it up and please stop acting like modern producers are the only ones who sample music.

Necessary

Sampling is when you get permission to use a melody from another song in your work. Writing an arrangement of happy birthday with permission from the publisher is sampling. Remixing a song with permission is sampling. (What we have here) Ice Ice baby does not sample under pressure - the author was sued and now a percent of the profits go to queen. Both of these song are awesome, nothing going on here is illegal, they let nujabes sample the song so the original would get more attention. Voila it worked look at the comments.

I'm you.

Honestly it's not a surprise. Nujabes mixture of hip hop and atmospheric music goes deeper than just what we listen to. Hip hop originally consisted of many artists sampling classic or older style songs (altering few to many things depending on the artist.) So for Nujabes to sample this song and play it over his own hip hop beat is still creativity in its own light.
