Happens to have patriotic lyrics, but it is Ray Davies' sarcasm at it's best. His interpretation of old-timers talking of 'those' days is spot on. I suppose the patriotism should be expressed by celebrating the Kinks, more British than the Beatles and far more than the Stones.

The Kinks fue un grupo instigador. Si buena fue su música tanto mejor su letra. Rupturistas, supieron manejar una y otra con desenfado y sentido de la armonía. Irreverentes. Lúcidos e iconoclastas. Arremetiendo contra todo valor vacuo. Puede que fuera eso lo que de ellos me encandilara. Que su música abarcara cuanto a lo humano se refiere y saltar cuantas cortapisas se les presentaran para lograrlo. Desde muy joven, la realeza me pareció una antigualla perdurable gracias a la farsa de leyendas maleadas. De ahí que apreciara Victoria como un destello en el mundo del showbiz. Destello que rompía un manto de silencio sobre lo que parecía sacrosanto: el imperio “civilizador”. Todos los imperios crecieron bañados en sangre. Esa es la triste historia. Para desvelarla, mejor la burla que el libelo. Victoria es un buen ejemplo del buen uso de la sátira. Toda cuchilla de afeitar es ladina, basta con trocar el uso de su filo.
