Here you see the British, sadly, still imitating America with the 3 second sound bites and frenetic presentation and all the exaggeration.

The Kinks,Waterloo Sunset will in the future be taught to school kids as a piece of iconic English work just as the poets are today,As. Piece of English literature it's right up there in my eyes.Perfection of a decade.

pete said (which is closer to accuracy anyways) dave is an innovator and ray of course is a gob smacking genius. no kinks documentary will cover anything deeper than sunny afternoon, you really got me, lola... it's sad. what about arther? better things? jukebox music? god. the kinks are only for the patient

2 ppl hate The Kinks? How the hell can they do that? The Kinks are perhaps the best band of all-time. British or not. Rayand Dave Davies (Davis) are the best!

This induction was the final time all four of the orginial Kinks got together - too bad there seems to be no video of the reunion.

MrCCrFan, go you! Some people just don't really listen to The Kinks, but judge before even knowing.. GSTK!

what you write there is totally sh*t. sorry. but listen to the 80s rock albums of the kinks like word of mouth, state of confusion, low budget etc they are all so great, and the lyrics are BRILLIANT, sometimes funny, sometimes cynical, sometimes earnest....and not about again about a girl, like the beatles did it with their thouthands of love songs with not really senseful lyrics. or do you think "i wanna hold your hand", "thank you girl", "she loves you" or "cant buy me love" have sense ? hahah

Pete said: "Ray is an innovator and Dave is a gob-smacking genius!" Truer words were never said. God save The Kinks. They're not like everybody else.

@PredatorFilmsInc Also, i think they're much better lyricists than either McCartney or Lennon.

@PredatorFilmsInc The thing is that the Beatles had two main songwriters, while the Who and the Kinks only had one (of course, not counting with Dave Davies, John Entwhistle and George Harrison). But, in my opinion, had Ray Davies and Pete Towshend formed one band in the beginnig of their careers, it would have been better than The Beatles.

@mdaltonwhite : Arthur is also a great album, dunno why I didn't put that on my comment all those months ago haha, Lola is a good album, but it came out 1970, I said the band were pretty crap from 1971 onwards, despite having moments of genius here and there, one of the best songs they produced in post-71 was actually a Dave Davies number called Living on a Thin Line

@PredatorFilmsInc : Nonsense. For starters, Lola Versus Powerman & the Money-Go-Round is utterly brilliant (Lola, Apeman, Top of the Pops, Strangers, Rats, Powerman).. honestly? Do u have ears & any sensibility? Muswell Hillbillies is also, perhaps the absolute PEAK of Ray's songwriting. And while there are inconsistencies, albums like Misfits & Showbiz also have amazong moments and are must owns. Low Budget is a good record. There are bits of genius on even the Preservations & Schoolboys.

@alabhaois : ... Although you could argue that "Quadrophenia" tops all of those albums.

@alabhaois : Pete and Ray are great. Not better than The Beatles. The Beatles created, changed and innovated so much in the space of 7 years. The Kinks have made music from 64-90s and their work from 1971-onwards is mostly awful. The only good Kinks album I can think off is VGPS, which itself has it's lows, maybe Face to Face as well. The Beatles have Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper and the White Album which all trump VGPS.

@colindominy I think that Pete and Ray outdo the Beatles in terms of their musical compositions. Not to disparage the Beatles, but the sheer guts, grittiness, and thundering output from the Kinks and the Who is, IMO, unsurpassed by anyone. I think Ray has written over 500 songs!!!

@13thfloor18 Yes, he doesn't give rave reviews to many musicians-- one compliment from Pete is worth a convention of music critics giving a standing ovation!

@jennyconn1 I have always loved the Brits as well-- what IS it about their music that catches the ear and wont let go? The Kinks are phenomenal and deserve all the accolades... GSTK!!
