I think you are refereeing to Jim McCauley. He played for the Kingsmen from 1964 through about 1978ish off and on (couple years where Tommy Hensley played). Jim McCauley from what I understand did pass away some years ago. I read this in an article I found researching your question: "Jim will surely be missed here by many. Think of the Kingsmen reunion in Heaven: Jim Hamill , Eldridge Fox, Anthony Burger, Calvin Runion, John Broome, Jim McCauley, Reese and Louis McKinney, Charles Matthews."

This is one of the Kingsmen best groups. I really miss big Jim and Foxy. I saw Greg Fox with Squire Parsons the other week ,and he sang his father's song Gone. He sounded a lot like his dad.
