I don't give a flying f**k who recorded it first. The best known version is from The Clash and trust me this is the cover of The Clash. Album name is Jolly Boys - The Great Expectation.

They need to write their own material though. My only criticism of them.

I hate it when a new group comes along and ruins a classic, Like the clash did to I fought the law. Just Horrible, A disgrace. I hope the cricket's and Bobby Fuller didn't hear it.

@budweiserchuck It wasn't Buddy Holly, he was dead when his band (The Crickets) first recorded this song.

I heard it from the Bobby Fuller Four, they were a one hit wonder, but I agree, Clash's version is better.

From Wikipedia: "I Fought the Law" is a much-covered rock and roll song. The song was written by Sonny Curtis and first recorded in 1959 by a post-Buddy Holly lineup of The Crickets that included Curtis. The song was famously covered by fellow Texan Bobby Fuller, who recorded a successful version of the song in 1965 (Fuller had released an earlier, slightly different version on his own Exeter label in 1964. The Clash also recorded a version in 1979.
