It's not even evolution they're denying, it's abiogenesis .

And actually, the house could be referring to your own self, or mind, and the house always wins rather then anything or anyone else.

well the lyrics are quite profound - no doubt about it. my suggestion is concerning the reference with the casino term "the house wins". i do believe it implies the domination of corporations in modern world - the house always wins / it is impossible to beat the system . "Ice age upon catastrophic ice age of selection, and only result has trickled in. The house wins." - after all these years of human history it is still the same. rich people dominate the world.

@MegaHappyman1 Well, you're both right and wrong. If God created nature (not necessarily creating it all in an instant), then wouldn't everything that happens in nature be done by God? Also, I don't think Christians (or anyone else) should disregard the blatant fact that evolution exists and plays an important role in everyone's life.

this song is talking about an asocial person who doesn't want to be asocial, he wants to open the window to let air in = he wants to open the door to let her in. but in the end he gives in and the house wins

@MegaHappyman1 (continued) ... things, but I don't think he's talking about the creationism vs. evolution topic, he trying to make a point, and that doing bad things is against the law or your morals, why do people keep doing bad things? Because it's the way we're made, be it either side of the argument. Maybe he is talking about natural selection. If he is, all you can do is understand where he's coming from. I think they're an amazing band, and I love how they can breed discussions like these.

@MegaHappyman1 Well I'm not christian, so what you're saying is slightly confusing. First of all, I am confused by you saying "bands try to put their world views in their songs so why should I listen?". I understand that your world views differ from the perspective of the writer, but not listening to their music because you have different beliefs should not be the reason you dislike them. Also, when they talk about evil; it's definitely evil, and it's definitely bad and wrong to do evil...

@magnoliamaggiemag (continued) "if evil were a lesser breed than justice after all these years the righteous would have freed the world of sin" if you think about that they're impling that evil isn't evil and basically they're saying that if evil were acctually bad and wrong it would have been eliminated by natural selection and basically saying that there is no god and now I don't listen to this band because in my opinion bands try to put their world views in their songs so y should I listen

@magnoliamaggiemag lost my password so this is megahappyman1 now anyways, as A reply to you unless you are christian you won't understand I didn't understand unttil abaou a week befoer I left that comment when my science teacher (I go to a christian school so he is also my bible teacher) played this song and asked us what we thought it implied and let me tell you its really the first time I ever thought about the lyrics in your favorite line

@britcast I personally (after much thought) think its about the relationship between the government and the people. I have some other theories, such as "there's no place like home", but that doesn't make much sense with the lyrics, and it could mean a relationship where the girl always wins, yet the 1st idea makes the most sense. "if evil were a lesser breed than justice after all these years the righteous would have freed the world of sin" Gotta love that line!
