I just finished "Cash--the Autobiography" where JRC wrote (in 1997) that he did indeed write 4 verses, but one was cut from the original recording due to broadcast time constraints. They put it back so that each of the Highwaymen could have one verse to sing.

Sorry. I know this is late but, JC did write this with it originally.. Theres a recording floating around from the 70s where he talked about it and stated it was the first time he was singing that part of it..

I cannot find the lyrics in that verse on file with ASCAP, SESAC, nor BMI. So he may have written them originally but they were not submitted on the documented lyric sheet and the original recording did not include them.

I remember that concert well coz I was there in Nassau collusium in long island 1990 had front row seats it was the best concert i'd ever been to,itwas well worth the money.

What?? That verse was written for the show.. Look again, there are four of them and they needed a verse for Waylon to sing. That verse is not in any of the versions that I have of that song. Yours either.
