This song so perfectly aligns to the themes of White Noise by Delilo, where they got their name ("The Airborne Toxic Event" is a title of a major section of the book). This song kind of feels like a lucid culmination of all their work.

I can't decide if this or All At Once is my favorite song of all time.

This is my fav. song in the world ... I can't sleep and I'm 3/4 down on a 1965 Springbank Scotch ... I am trying to drink some 1 out of my head .... prob not the best idea , but it is 1 of those ... Sometimes you just hit a spot in the road where you can't go around, over you just have to go through :(

this song is about how death is certain but love doesn't necessarily have to fade

The song itself is about the hardships and uncertainty that come from such a love. I've always seen that last line as more of a silver lining than anything. But then again, I am quite the pessimist.

In that line he is considering to move on, it might be better to move on, but then he says "still I'll try", he will still try to love her, and he goes on to state is reason for not moving on and still loving her is because "its better to love whether you win or lose or die"

But then he says "maybe better to move on and let life just carry on". So he's somewhat unsure of what to do. I still find it rather sad, even only considering the original meaning you've extracted from it.

some of my favorite moments come from listening to this album while sitting in the car in the rain. theres something so beautiful about it.

I think he means that he'll defy every one of his fears, and love her anyway. The fear of death and being alone.

My friends show me sad songs and movies and I'm like "meh" and they're like "you have no soul". And then I listen to Airborne and I end up lying in the middle of my bedroom floor with my eyes closed and my mind somewhere else, and I don't know quite what I'm feeling, but it's a power of some sort - some strange kind of sorrow - and somehow, something in the song seems to make it okay that I'm sad.

yup and this makes the "All I ever wanted" song happier too. I think both songs are connected because of some of the same language.

I thought he meant he'd defy every one of his fears. :x Up to interpretation I guess.
