My girlfriend back then knew them from her time in north London and I saw them with her in Salzburg. I was so pissed off because I wasn't good at admitting when other bands were good. It was very disarming to discover after the gig that there was no rock god bravado and that Robin was a very amicable dude who talked to us for 20 minutes or so without any 'me-the-band-the-gig' stuff and without checking the watch. Brilliantly powerful and evocative music and a nice bloke! I bought the black woolly God Machine hat and wore it all that winter.

I can't believe I was 15 years old when i bought this, based solely on a decent review in Kerrang! magazine, and I still every love every single last chord of it 18 years later. Absolutely momentous record. One of the few I know i'll stick on and bore my grandkids about in about 30 years time. They'll think i'm a right miserable cunt, and they will be right - I can't wait!

@tehf00n They were truly great. Scenes from the Second Storey is my favourite. One Last Laugh In A Place Of Dying is more subdued, I think that the individual songs are wonderful but the whole album is a bit too "uniform". Thanks for posting, I thought they had been almost completely forgotten.
