THAT voice. You either get it or you don't. I've heard many try to reach Robert's heights of 'The Figurehead', 'Burn' or even 'Not In Love'. Not close. He's a Bernard Sumner with an equally distinctive voice but who can also sing! Fabulous. Like Janette's vocals too. Prefer this ever-so-slightly

Here's why I like the album version better. The singer's style, and the instrumentation, are very simple so the aching beauty of the lyrics is able to come through. Here the lyrics "get lost in the sauce." I think Smith today would do a far better job singing and arranging this than he did when this was recorded.
