"The Girl Can't Help It," sung by Little Richard was released in December 1956, and was the title song to one of the first great rock and roll movies (The Girl Can't Help It, starring Jayne Mansfield). The song peaked at #49 on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart, made it to #7 on the USA R&B chart, and went to #9 in the UK. It was included on the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time at #413.
"The Girl Can't Help It" was composed by songwriter Bobby Troup (also known for "Route 66"), and was not originally written as a rock song. Fats Domino was originally lined up to record the track.

There are a lot of songs where people have no clue of their origins. It isn't Fergies fault. I'm glad she used it to make this song more popular. Similar to Christine Agulera's (?) I have always thought the difference in the back-up singers obviously all white line-up pronouncing the word 'help' (with the l), as opposed to Little Richards rocking 'The Girl Can't HEP it" is so drastic. Can't help but wonder if the studio conversation at the time might have gone a little like this: "Hey, can you guys drop the L on the word Help please?" "What, you mean you want us to sing like niggers? Hell No!" (No, I am not a racist. Just thought of the irony of the situation, that's all)11 years ago
