This is pretty good; not the best version I've heard. But a decent effort. The original is still the best; and Jose Gonzalez does the 2nd best in my opinion; but this would be in my Top 5 for best versions; just above Elbow and Newton Faulkner.

i don't agree with you. i feel that the "meaning" is up to the individual, hence the term "interpretation" in my original post. some people feel the song is about abortion; let's suppose that's what the writers meant. one could argue then, that the original is about the sadness and loss. But another version, maybe with some heavy guitars or drums, could suggest anger; and another version, say, with a banjo, could be sarcastic. that's the beauty of music: there's no one way to listen to it.

I like the original better. This is a very good song, with excellent production values, but it is too similar to the original. In my opinion, it has the exact same feel (as well as the same drum beat, etc). There is no reason for me to listen to this version while the original exists. Other versions, such as Newton Faulkner, while too folksy for my tastes, offer a different interpretation. Also, the vocal is not as captivating as the original.
